Kindness Is A Language Which The Deaf Can Hear & The Blind Can See

If there is one thing that distinguishes us from other species, it is kindness. There is a famous saying by Mark Twain that kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see. What this means is simple and worthwhile: kindness is a fundamental aspect of human life.

Be it a child that cuddles in your lap or someone helping a homeless old man shivering in the street on a cold night, whether or not they show you the pleasure in their eyes after the act of kindness, they ‘feel’ it deep inside. More often than not, they will express their gratitude for your act of kindness. If not, they will ‘feel’ it – which is enough in and of itself.

Thus, it is apparent that the receiver of the act of kindness will be happy. Give out some charity to the needy ones, they will be happy. Likewise, offer some bucks to the homeless community, and they will feel the happiness deep in their hearts. You can see the sense of happiness right in their eyes.

But did you know that the ‘givers’ are the happiest people? That is right! A new study finds that happy people are those who are kind to others. In her book, “The Keys to Kindness,” Claudia Hammond asserts that the act of kindness makes the giver happy. They live a long and happy life, she suggests. Not to mention that kind people are the ones who live a more satisfying and content life.

However, her breakthrough analysis is based on a practical experience that she came across. It was a sunny day as we are cycling in the park, kicks off the author in the opening line of her book. Out of nowhere, Claudia sees an old lad sitting under the shadow of a tree in the park. Out of curiosity, she heads toward him and sits beside him.

“Can I help you in any way possible,” asks Claudia. The sweaty man responds that having an ‘actual talk” is all he wants. So, she sits with him without knowing that she has spent three hours with this man.

“There are lots of things that I learned during our three hours of conversation,” Claudia suggests. But the foremost thing that stood above all is the sense of happiness that she felt deep inside – after the conversation.

She felt “like a queen” for a moment just because of spending some quality time with the needy man who needed an “actual talk.”

Thus, the bottom line that Claudia concludes with is that no act of kindness is small. It could be as simple as sitting with people and having an “actual talk” with them. Deep inside, the giver can ‘feel’ the happiness of the act of kindness. It goes without saying that the receiver will definitely feel a sense of happiness because of the act of kindness.

So, spread the word: Kindness is a language the deaf can hear and the blind can see.
